Interview with FARRAH WEST

Hi Farrah, nice to "talk" to you! *virtual handshake*
Here's a couple of questions to be put in the Interviews section of my Threshold fan page. I think it could be interesting for the fans to have a different kind of interviews - not only the usual "Is this last record the best of your career ?" and stuff... ok, let's go: where did you happen to meet Rich ? *I'm curious!*

In church.... In 1995 I joined a church where Rich happened to be playing piano. We were introduced a few weeks later, we just chatted on and off for the next year. I started helping at a local young offenders institute in 1996 with church services where Rich sometimes helped too and we gradually got to know each other.  Then in 1997 I asked him if he wanted to come to a concert with me and some friends... in the end no-one else could make it so it ended up being just the two of us... I think that we've been together every day since then with the exception of Threshold tours.

What was your first impression of Rich?

That he was playing piano in church and that he was good!

What did you like about him most at first?

We instantly 'connected', I know that sounds fairly sad.  There was something going on before I even realised it!

Do you like the Threshold stuff ? Any preference among the songs ?

Yes I do like Threshold but only the newest albums, Clone & Hypothetical. I'm not so keen on the older stuff...  As for favourite songs, all of them are Rich's of course!

Do you ever "advise" Rich when he comes up with ideas at home, telling him when you like a tune he may play on the piano or tell him, "nah, that's better to be dropped again"?

All the time and I worry that I might offend him, but mostly he does whatever he wants!

Have you ever felt "jealous" of Threshold when you thought the band took too much of your time together away or has this never been the case?

The only part of Threshold that I really dislike is touring and really long studio hours, I hate Rich going away but it has been better the last couple of times. I thought that I would go away at the same time, so while Rich was in the studio recording Hypothetical I went to Sydney and then last year while he was on tour I went to Greece with my sister.  We had a great time, I called Rich a lot while I was on the beach and he was in the tour bus, I think that I made him jealous!

I listened to "Summer", you have quite a sweet voice! How's your solo career going ?

Thank you. The plan is to start recording again in January so that we can finish the album that we started together. ["we" means her and Richard - Rob]

Can you tell us more about the project you and Rich are working on ? I only heard 'Summer', have you recorded other songs ?

The music that we're recording together isn't much like Threshold at all, its quite pop-ish with all sorts of influences thrown in... we've recorded quite a few songs so far but we won't be using all of them for the 'Farrah West project' a lot of them have just been about finding out what suits us both best and getting the most out of the two of us working together.

What happened to the name "Angel" for your project?

We found out that the American band Angel were still going strong after 40 years or something like that and so decided that we would use my name.

I think Karl Groom could do a wonderful work on your songs (I'm thinking about the Sunrise On Mars solo, for example, quite Pink Floyd-ish to me!), will he play some guitars ?

You're right he would do a fantastic job but we probably won't be asking him otherwise we'll be in danger of this becoming another Threshold and it really isn't.  I'm not sure what the Threshold fans will think of it!

Do you think you could sing some backing vocals on a Threshold record ?

I already have, on Voyager II (Clone) I'm part of the backing choir.  I don't think that I'll be doing anymore than that though, I don't really have the required 'gravel'!  I'm listed in the credits as Kelly West.  My full name is Kelly Farrah Jane West, I decided that for the project that Rich and I have that I would use Farrah.

How was it for you working with the band when recording the "choir" on Voyager II ?

It was fun, I hadn't done a great deal of recording at that point so it was a cool experience for me.

Have you ever tried singing some Threshold tunes like Under The Sun, Sunrise On Mars or Keep My Head ? *I think you could do a nice work on this last!*

I sing to whatever music I have playing, and like singing Threshold songs. But the feel of the songs changes completely because I have such a different voice.

What kind of music are you into generally and most?

Generally, almost everything, except very heavy metal like SlipKnot or dance/garage.  Mostly Bryan Adams, Brandy, Jars of Clay, Janet Jackson, Lene Marlin, Dido, Maxwell, D'Angelo, In Flames and of course Threshold.

As a singer, who are your "idols"?

All of the above, though they aren't as much idols as music I love to listen to.

Do you like blues/soul music, like the soundtrack of "The Commitments" or of "Blues Brothers" ? [two movies I like a lot, actually!! - Rob]

It wouldn't be my first choice to listen to and I would pick jazz above blues but its still cool.

Have you ever been in Italy ? Any plans to have a vacation there ?

I have never been to Italy but is high on my list of place to see,  Rich and I are hoping to visit but we don't have any firm plans yet.

What's your favourite food ?

Mexican or Italian, actually most things, I eat a lot!

Cups of coffee per day ?

None I don't like coffee or tea, or any hot drinks.....

Your dream of a lifetime ?

Far too many to list....

Are your thoughts "mostly autumn" ? ^_^ [I'm referring to the lyrics of "Summer" - Rob]

No, not at the moment!

What's the first thing you'd do if you win $1,000,000 ?

I'd go shopping! I would give some away to family too...

What would you do if you could be invisible for ten minutes ?

I have no idea!

What do you think about the Threshold guys ?

They are all pretty cool, I know Karl and Mac better than the others.  Karl was the best man at our wedding and Mac usually stays with us when he is over here, Rich spends more time with all of them than I do.  I think that they are all great musicians.

How does it feels to be interviewed instead of Rich ? ^_^

Okay, at least I get different questions, he mostly answers the same kind of
thing over and over again.

Last one: is it cool to be the wife of a rockstar ? *giggle* ^_^

Very Cool!
