A long, detailed diary full of technical stuff is not something you
probably want to read, so here's just a collection of pictures and
videos plus some
short comment.
Day 1 - drums
As usual, the first thing you do when you record a cd are the drums. Rob
and Matt arrived early at Temple Of Noise studios to set up the drums
and do the soundcheck. Mirko, the sound engineer, proved to be as nice
as qualified, and when Jonna arrived we were just ready to start.
Matt's comments in his own words: "I have my own sound, no discussions.
Jonna tried to convince me to trigger the drumset but I was absolutely
against it and fortunately he understood me - especially because I
already recorded with the trigger and was absolutely not pleased of the
result.
As we arrive at Temple Of Noise on monday morning, I imediately go to
see the drumkit: I have a sort of virus that makes me hate small sized
cymbals and drums. Fortunately is a good Mapex mars pro series, with
respectable bass drums and toms sizes; after a quick setting and an
accurate tuning, I am happily satisfied of the powerful sound.
After some warming up, I start the soundcheck with Mirko, playing some
Led Zeppelin - that's never bad!"
Matt checking if the setup is comfortable enough:

...who needs small cymbals ?
Matt and Rob waiting for Mirko to finish setting up the microphones.
As Jonna arrived, it was clear he hadn't slept much!
Both bass and guitars have been played for the basic tracks for the
drums; here's Rob and Jonna tuning, with Mirko keeping everything under
control.
Jonna brought his cheap but versatile Bc Rich for the basic tracks...
But, as you can see, he was unhappy at all of the sound of the Line6 amp
used; fortunately he hadn't used that for the recordings!
And finally, the red key has been pusheed: recording!
